40th generation ?

I was reading the geneology of Jesus in the book of Luke. I counted 39 generations counting God as the 1st and Jesus as the 39th. Given that line of thought the next generation after Jesus would be the church the 40th generation.  I am just asking any thoughts. This is my first try at blogging looks like fun.
